Writer Interviews

Finnian Burnett

I’m super excited to bring you this interview with writer Finnian Burnett in which we talk about Star Trek, what Finn hopes people take away from their writing, what it means to think of yourself as a writer, and much more.

Finnian’s book The Clothes Make the Man is available at Ad Hoc, click here to find out more.

Electra Rhodes

This generative writing podcast includes daily prompts in all forms, including the writing game Flesh Cricket – I’ll give you a word every thirty seconds, and you include that word in the sentence you’re writing. Come play!

Today a special treat – an interview with writer Electra Rhodes, who has a craft book called Writing Rules coming out in 2023 with Ad Hoc press, and a short story that will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in February.

Lindz McLeod

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing one of my favourite writers, Lindz McLeod.

Lindz is a queer, working-class, Scottish writer who dabbles in the surreal. She has been the Competition Secretary of the Edinburgh Writers’ Club since 2019, as well as their Flash Fiction judge. She is a fiction reader for Outlook Springs and for the Scottish Flash Fiction Awards, a freelance editor and writing coach, an experienced workshop host, and a Rogue Mentor to six talented mentees. Additionally, she is a full member of the SFWA and the Federation of Writers (Scotland). She very rarely sleeps.

Her forthcoming short story collection, Turducken, represents the best of her short form work and spans a wide range of genres from literary to comedy to horror. Her debut novel, Beast, recreates the Beauty and the Beast myth at the time of the French revolution; the castle butler is trapped between loyalty to his employers and the desire to survive both the peasant rebellion and a creeping, insidious curse.

Melissa Llanes Brownlee

I’m super excited today to bring you an interview with Melissa Llanes Brownlee, a Native Hawaiian writer, currently living in Japan, where she teaches English at a junior high school. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing and Linguistics from Boise State University and her Master’s Degree in Fine Arts in Fiction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals and magazines, in print and online, and you can find her two books, Hard Skin and Kahi and Lua, available for sale here.
